SOMETHING BRITISH

...to understand the heart & mind of a person look not at what he has already achieved, but at what he aspires to...
-Kahlil Gibran-

...today I'm sharing with you an ATC which I made for our recent Swap...

...this is held once a month and we each take a turn at theme choice, it was May's turn & her theme was 'something British...

...my aim was to give a shabby chic feel to this ATC...I cut the red & blue pieces by hand & gave them a light sanding, then stuck the lot on my white card, then gave the whole thing a Modge Podge coating, once dried another light sanding to make it roughed up...

...this stamp image was given the spritz & flick technique from Tim's on-line class, then added some tiny brads & some bead wire to frame the image, then stuck on top of plain buff corrugated card...

...I embossed the crown with old gold, bit annoyed it pitted (if anyone can shed some light I'd like to know why it happens) but adds to the shabby look, added a few iridescent beads and there she is...

...and the back again the shabby look...

...well thats my 3rd ATC in a row now & I loVe these little beauties!...

also

...Mr Postie arrived with a little something for me...

...this rather splendid watercolour by Sally Anne Lambert was sent to me by Lynn of http://oneimadeearliertoday.blogspot.co.uk/ ...Lynn had visited Haworth Art Gallery in Accrington & saw this beautiful Fox card & thought of me and decided to purchase it and sent it to me...thank you so much Lynn you have a beautiful heart...

...thank you for stopping by today...

  3. Hey Mr Fox card looks lovely with your own Mel and how impressive are you with your ATC's they are fantastic and you've given me an idea for my jubilee play day. Ive been busy working on constructing my website since the boss took the office shackles off me.
I will let you know when it's up and running. It's very basic but it's exciting.

  4. A fab ATC Mel - great cutting for the background! Mr Fox is super too - my husband draws dogs and cats and was looking for "another" animal. I shall suggest a fox to him and see what he comes up with.

  6. Your ATC is great. I didn't have a clue about how you made it, hehe, but I like the end result. Have you seen the book by Patricia Bolton, 1000 Artist Trading Cards? It's completely brilliant! I received it as a gift from a very lovely lady to help with inspiration for my Tag cards. I love it!
The fox card is beautiful! What a handsome fellow he is! :D

  11. WOW!! Mel I love this ATC, the detail is just amazing, how you made the flag is Brillant.. the pitting on the crown I like that effect but if you emboss twice sometimes this helps to remove any pitting!!! if that helps!! Well, look at that wee fox he is adorable so very kind of Lynn, Its always lovely to receive a surprize in the post... Hugs May x x x x

  14. Oh love your ATC! I don't know about the crown but it looks great to me. Adds to the shabby chic look.

  15. Just giggling at Mark's comment...the backs of my artworks are always messy too!
That's one fabulously patriotic ATC Mel, great cutting out. I wouldn't worry about the pitting on the crown, it adds interesting texture, in my humble opinion. But maybe another layer of EP would have sorted it, or a bit more heat.
What a lovely fox card, so thoughtful of Lynn!
    Have a great weekend,
    Alison xx

  18. Terrific walk through on your 'something British'
What a lovely Fox gift. We have a fox that frequents our
    field, {probably picking up the field mice and bopping them on the head}
Anyhow I will think of you my bloggy friend when I see it.
    keep smiling and creating

  19. Love, love, love your ATC. I am into British big time at the moment and this is gorgeous. I think the pitting adds to the crown but sometimes heating from the back instead of the front helps. That was so kind of Lynn and the card is lovely. Hugs, Anne Rx

  23. Thank you for stopping by every day while I was gone from my blog. Although I'm not really a Tim fan, I LOVE what you make. And of course, congrats on becoming a design team member. I'm SO happy for you, because you truly deserve it, just like the ATC you made for the swap you were in. What lucky person or persons who received this one.

Speaking of which, it was awesome of Lynn to send you the card. I love it when people think of you, even though you may never have and may never meet. That's the real beauty of the internet, I think.

I would like to add your blog to my left sidebar. Please let me know if that is OK with you. I never add anyone's blog without their permission. And thanks again for taking time to visit me.
